Our Mission and Programs

Our Mission:  Georgia Audubon is building places where birds and people thrive.

Our Vision:  A conservation-minded and fully engaged Georgia where birds prosper, habitats flourish, and understanding grows.

We approach our work through conservation, education, and community engagement.
Georgia Audubon is a member-supported, non-profit organization dedicated to building places where birds and people thrive. We are a thriving, bird-focused organization that combines serious conservation, education, and community engagement with activities that build community and foster the joy of birding.

Georgia Audubon serves all areas of Georgia. We engage across the state in collaboration with other groups that share our mission. We speak for the birds to create a public policy focus on conservation of birds and their habitats. With a committed staff, a focused board, and a flock of talented volunteers, Georgia Audubon strives to share our passion with others to connect people with nature and to inspire everyone to be stewards of birds and the environment. We build trust and credibility by being honest, hardworking, and responsible with rigorous attention to sound science and long-term thinking.

Just as bird diversity strengthens ecosystems, the diversity of human experiences, traditions, and viewpoints strengthen our conservation, education, and community engagement efforts.

georgia Audubon Strategic Plan

Our Values

Georgia Audubon affirms core values that represent what we think is important and how we approach everything we do.  We pledge to engage in strategic thinking and practices that will advance our mission and ensure that our organization is robust.  We value:

Passion and Commitment
We share our passion and connect people with nature, inspiring everyone to be good stewards of birds and the environment.

Integrity, Trust and Credibility
Personal and organizational integrity is the foundation for our work. We build trust and credibility by being honest, hardworking, and responsible with rigorous attention to sound science and long-term thinking.

Collaboration
Teamwork is critical to our success. To foster maximum impact, we believe in collaborating broadly with stakeholders across Georgia to promote our shared missions.

Respect
We respect the opinions and roles of our members, volunteers, staff, board members, partners, and stakeholders, and learn from their experience, expertise, and beliefs.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
We strive to mimic the diversity of nature and of our community in our work. Just as bird diversity strengthens ecosystems, the diversity of human experiences, traditions, and viewpoints strengthens our outcomes.  Outreach in all of our work—conservation, education, community engagement, as well as board and staff recruitment and development—is done with a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Stewardship
We can achieve our mission by working with public agencies and private landowners to build, restore, and maintain bird-friendly habitats that mitigate the effects of climate change and other human-caused threats to birds.

Inspiring Action
We believe that every person can make a positive difference for birds and their habitats. By providing educational and transformational experiences and educating policymakers and the public on issues that affect birds and their habitat, we promote a conservation ethic now and into the future.
