As part of our annual Georgia Grows Native for Birds Month, Georgia Audubon and Oconee Rivers Audubon, in Athens, will be collaborating on a fall native plant sale. We will partner with Beech Hollow Wildlife Farms to bring you a large selection of bird-friendly, native plants for your landscape. Plants may be ordered online from September 1 to 18, and we will have pickup dates in late September at Blue Heron Nature Preserve (Atlanta) and at Beech Hollow Wildflower Farms in Lexington. Please select a pickup location when you purchase plants.

A few notes for the fall sale:
  • Plants must be purchased and paid for online. We cannot accept cash or checks. If you need assistance or would like to order over the phone, please call the office at 678-973-2437 and leave a message. Someone will call you back and assist you with your order as soon as possible. Please note that our office is currently closed due to COVID-19 so please be patient.
  • Online sales will end on Friday, September 18.
  • All plants MUST BE picked up on the pickup dates in Atlanta or Athens. We cannot hold plants for you for later pickup. We will have social distancing protocols in place when you arrive to pick up your plants.
  • We will be updating inventory throughout the sale period so if a plant you want is not available, please check back in a day or two as we may be able to secure additional plants.

wildlife sanctuary program

Certify your bird-friendly property as a Georgia Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary. The Widlife Sanctuary Program encourages property owners to enhance their land for birds and other wildlife. Through planting and providing native plants, removing or controlling exotic species, and providing food, water, and shelter for wildlife, local property owners can provide critical wildlife habitat and create a safe-haven for wildlife.

To learn more about the Wildlife Sanctuary certification process, please visit our Wildlife Sanctuary Program page.

Do you enjoy attracting birds and other beneficial wildlife to your yard? Do you know which types of plants will attract hummingbirds or which plants are the top producers of fruits for other birds? Do you have invasive plants you want to rid from your yard? Join Ellen Honeycutt from the Georgia Native Plant Society for this workshop on how to create a Wildlife Sanctuary on your own property. You’ll learn which plants give the biggest bang for your buck in terms of food production, shelter, and nesting sites and which plants you may want to avoid. Learn how to manage your Wildlife Sanctuary without the use of harmful pesticides and herbicides and where to go within north Georgia to source native plants for your own landscaping needs.
