This event is free to attend.

Chalking: 1:00 to 5:00 PM
Voting and Awards: 5:00 to 6:00 PM
Make Piedmont Park your canvas during Atlanta Audubon's Chalk Art Festival as part of Georgia Grows Native for Birds Month this September! We invite families, individuals, non-profits, businesses, corporate partners, and local artists to create temporary drawings which will brighten the unveiling following the festival. Participants will receive a square in which to create a unique work of art celebrating Georgia's native plants and animals.  The event will take place in front of Atlanta Audubon's Exhibitat in the Piedmont Commons Section at Piedmont Park (at the end of Northminster Road,  NE). The Exhibitat is a permanent, bird-friendly habitat located in the Piedmont Commons section of Piedmont Park that features a native plant demonstration garden and Georgia's first Chimney Swift tower. Proceeds from the Chalk Art Festival will fund Chimney Swift tower construction projects in the metro area.

what you'll be working with...

Each participant will receive a 5' x 5' square along the edge of the path, powdered tempura paint in assorted colors, and bowls and water for mixing. We will have limited paintbrushes available, so we encourage you to BYOBrushes. You may also bring your own chalk if you would prefer not to use the powdered tempera provided.

Questions? Contact Beverly Fooks, Membership & Development Associate, via email or call 678.973.2437.

registration & guidelines

All proceeds from registration fees support Chimney Swift Tower construction in the metro area.
  • Artwork should fit the theme of "Georgia's Native Plants and Wildlife." Otherwise, we encourage your creativity. You are welcome to incorporate your organization's logo into your art.
  • All artwork must be family-friendly.
  • No permanent art supplies will be allowed. Powdered tempera paint will provided, but artists may bring their own powdered tempera and/or chalk, and any painting and blending tools they may want. We strongly encourage you to bring your own paintbrushes.
  • There will be three categories for participation:
    • Organizations
    • Artists
    • Families/Individuals
  • A winner will be announced in each of the three categories, selected by a panel of judges. In addition, a people's choice award will be presented.
  • Up to four artists may work on a team on one square organization and artist categories.
  • Up to five family members from the same household may work on a family square.
  • Artists may not chalk earlier than 1:00 PM or later than 5:00 PM.
  • Registration is now open and spaces must be reserved by Monday, September 16.
  • Artists may not sell anything during the chalking period or erect a tent or other signage, per our event permit.
  • No refunds will be given to registered participants unless chalking must be canceled due to inclement weather. Proceeds support the long-term maintenance of the Exhibitat and Chimney Swift tower.
