how do i participate?

  1. Like a walk-a-thon, but instead of walking (or while walking!), go birding and gather donations from friends and family.
  2. Register as a BIg Day Challenge fundraiser and set up your online fundraising page.
  3. A fun challenge for everyone -- kids, adults, beginners, and experts. How many bird species can you find in 24 hours or less?
  4. Complete your Big Day Challenge during one of the Atlanta Bird Fest events with help from one of our expert guides or find your own spot to bird (even your backyard feeder) between April 13 and May 12.
  5. Build a team or go it alone! Gather a group of friends to pool your resources and expertise or go it alone for a fun, different activity.
  6. Prizes will be awarded at our May 19 Closing Celebration at SweetWater Brewery in a variety of categories, including Top Fundraiser, Best Bird, and Most Species Observed.

prizes for big day challenge participants

To show our appreciation for your efforts, Big Day Challenge participants will be eligible for the following:
  1. Participants who raise/donate $100 or more will receive your choice of a complimentary Atlanta Audubon hat or an Atlanta Bird Fest 2019 T-shirt featuring artwork by local artist Abigail (A.J.) DeWitt. Teams of multiple participants will receive their choice of a T-shirt or hat for every $100 raised (up to the number of team participants).
  2. The individual or team who raises the most during the Big Day Challenge will win a two-night stay at a four-bedroom, three-bathroom cabin located in Big Canoe, located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains about an hour north of Atlanta.
To be eligible for prizes, participants must register their team or personal fundraising page online. Participants should submit a list of birds observed during their Big Day Challenge using the Final Report form below or by emailing the list to Michelle Hamner by Monday, May 13, at 5:00 PM.

All participants are encouraged to submit their checklists to eBird.
